The well-being of children is one of our core values. At UCA, we want to ensure all children have the resources they need to become healthy, caring humans. Supporting their basic needs and fostering emotional intelligence is one of our passions. That’s why we offer a selection of helpful, child-centric benefits for UCA members, like:
- Tools to assess resilience
- Fun, age-appropriate, care-focused mobile apps and videos
- Educational resources about cyberbullying
Is My Child Resilient?
Resilience is the ability to adapt and recover when faced with adversity, stress, or trauma. It’s our ability to bounce back; it may result in personal growth. Resilience is a learned skill that can be developed throughout our lives.
As caregivers, we strive to protect our children. Teaching our children resilience is one way to do so. We may not be able to shelter them from all hardship, but we can increase their odds of successfully overcoming it.
When a child is resilient, they:
- Show initiative and are assertive
- Can solve problems
- Are empathetic to others
- Ask for help when needed
- Have a sense of purpose and a positive outlook
- Are independent
To assess resilience, UCA created the Is My Child Resilient tool. It’s an easy-to-use scale survey that measures a child’s self-perception and coping skills. This assessment can be used for children, teens, and young adults.
Mobile Apps Made Safe
We created a list of age-appropriate apps that promote caring action, ages 2 through the teen years. Each mobile app is verified with Common Sense Media, who reviews, monitors, and rates a broad range of apps.
They ensure that caregivers can help their children safely navigate an ever-changing digital landscape. UCA puts the safety and health of children first, while ensuring they are happy and educated. Plus, children highly rate the recommended apps!
Caring Videos
We have compiled a list of videos and short films about kindness and caring. Eliminate time spent searching through 1000’s of videos and get straight to the good stuff!
Each video demonstrates how kindness is a tool for positive growth.
Online video is the top media preference for young people. One average, children 8 to 12 consume 4 hours and 44 minutes of screen media daily. This number increases to 7hrs and 22 minutes for teens. Why not use some of that screentime to cultivate caring?
Say No to Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying is harassment and mistreatment that occurs in a digital space. It can take place through social media, email, texting, etc. Forty-eight percent of children ages 9 to 12 have been cyberbullied. This can impact a child’s mental, physical, and emotional health.
We support anti-bullying organizations like Stomp Out Bullying and Boys Town. UCA members can access a kit (assembled by Boys Town) that teaches children about bullying and how to handle it.
Every child deserves safety and security. Become a UCA member today and get resources to raise caring, emotionally intelligent children.
