Mahatma Ghandi once said “Peace between countries must rest on the solid foundation of love between individuals”. Peace and unity is a major topic that needs to be and should be addressed to make this world a better place. If I were the President of the United States, I would make use of everything in my power to promote peace and unity in this world. As a society, we need to work together to help achieve this which will only bring us happiness. It would be hard to achieve peace and unity because of the various different ways an individual’s mind works. We as a society, would need to be willing to keep trying to make this work out, no matter the obstacles we may face. Many factors come into play when considering bringing peace and unity such as culture, gender, and religion. These factors divide us but we need more diversity in this world to bring peace and be unified to learn from each other and overall become better people together. I would promote peace and unity through non-profit organizations which do many great things to help those in need. I would provide them with money which will give them financial stability to keep making this place a better world. I would also volunteer at homeless shelters, nursing homes, soup kitchens, and other places to serve as an example to the people so they could see how giving up our time could benefit more people than they ever imagined. One day we may be one of those people in need and it would be reassuring to know that because we helped someone else, they too will return the favor. We need to show more gratitude towards one another and stop letting anything get in the way of us being unified. I would show how hate is not a solution to anyone’s problems and that we are better off united. Although it is necessary for the safety of the people to have borders for security reasons, we need to stop living in fear and take risks once in awhile by instead of pushing people away, inviting them in. This way we can all thrive unified. We need to remember our founding fathers and honor their hard work and effort of the constitution. The purpose of the constitution was to create a unified government. “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union….” Although it was written quite a long time ago, it is a part of history that also needs to be part of our future. Another way to promote peace and unity would be through public schools and teaching students beginning in elementary school to work as a team to accomplish challenges. I would also meet with other leaders from other countries such as Canada and China to come to agreements regarding issues or concerns with foreign policy. One can only achieve so little by themselves but together, we can and will achieve greatness.
